The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH), specifically its American Committee of Molecular, Cellular and Immunoparasitology (ACMCIP), hosts an annual Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Tryphena has been selected as one of three winners! She has earned an oral presentation at the ACMCIP Trager, Trainee, & Takeoff Awardee Symposium during the 2026 ASTMH Annual Meeting, which will be held November 18–22, 2026, in National Harbor, Maryland, USA. Let’s give a huge congratulations to both Kevin and Tryphena who were just awarded research fellowships through the newest fellowship program in the Biology grad program, the Wente RA fellowship! They will both have a semester of time to dedicate to their research projects and a break from teaching as a result.

Cordy Lab Receives CRBM Pilot Grant!
In January, Cordy lab received funding of $10,000 by the Center for Redox Biology and Medicine for the project entitled “Characterizing Off-Target Oxidative Damage in Human Red Blood Cells During High-Dose Vitamin C Treatment Using an In Vitro Model of the Malaria Bystander Effect.”

Dr. Dinah Nahid Successfully Defends her PhD
On June 18, 2025, Dinah presented her full set of scientific results to her PhD committee and she was granted permission to schedule her PhD defense and move forward with her plans to graduate. On August 21st, Dinah Nahid successfully defended her PhD. Cordy Lab is beyond proud of her for her work and effort. Congratulations to Dr. Nahid on this huge accomplishment!
